Gymnoscelis esakii Inoue View in CoL
( Fig. 51 View FIGURES 22–57 )
Gymnoscelis esakii View in CoL : Beljaev & Mironov 2019: 270 ( Sakhalin).
Material examined. 1 ♂, 1 ♀, S Kholmsk, 13.IX.2017, 08.IX.2019 .
Distribution. Russia (S RFE: SW Sakhalin, S Primorskii Krai), Japan ( Hokkaido, Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, Tsushima, Yakushima, Amami Oshima, Okinawa), South Korea ( Jeju).
Remarks. The finding of G. esakii in Sakhalin significantly expands its distribution range to the northeast. In Japan the larvae are polyphages and were recorded on various plants from Ranunculaceae , Myricaceae , Rosaceae , Ulmaceae , Anacardiaceae , Araliaceae , Pittosporaceae , and Asteraceae ; prefer flowers and buds. Possibly, in Sakhalin this species is migrant, as the moths have been recorded in autumn only, while in Japan it is a common species, occurring from May to October ( Nakajima & Yazaki 2011).
