Description. Holotype. Adult male. Structure typical for Ochrotrichia spp. ( Flint 1972) except body length 2.7 (from tip of head to end of the folded wings). Length of each forewing 2.4 General color uniform brown (in alcohol). Tibial spur formula: 1-3-4. Metascutellum subpentagonal. Abdomen without visible modifications.
Male genitalia. Sternum IX short, posterior margin with deep mesal incision and pair of lateral shallower incisions ( Fig. 2A View FIGURES 2 A – D ), covered by long setae; tergum IX trapezoidal ( Fig. 2B View FIGURES 2 A – D ), posterior margin darker and sclerotized, in lateral view apical section slightly elevated on each side. Inferior appendages very long, oblong, with apex slightly truncate in lateral view ( Fig. 2C View FIGURES 2 A – D ); distal portion tapered in ventral view; with long setae over all surface and peg-like setae on internal surface ( Fig. 2C View FIGURES 2 A – D ). Tergum X elongate; apical portion divided longitudinally into two processes with approximately equal sizes convergent apically in dorsal view ( Fig. 2B View FIGURES 2 A – D ), both processes with sclerotized and acute apices; in lateral view right one directed ventrad and left one directed dorsad ( Fig. 2C View FIGURES 2 A – D ). Phallus tubular, elongate, and slender; basal portion wider; ejaculatory duct not protruding; apex without spines, but with two very small lateral expansions ( Fig. 2D View FIGURES 2 A – D ).
Female and larva stages unknown.
Remarks. This is another species placed in the O. aldama group. Based on the shape of tergum X, elongate inferior appendages, and the sclerotized apical section of tergum IX, this new species is most similar to O. aldama ( Mosely, 1937) , O. bipartita Flint & Bueno-Soria, 1999 , and O. limeirai sp. nov. However, in O. priapo sp. nov. the processes of tergum X are curved and the flap of the right process mentioned for O. aldama is absent. Ochrotrichia priapo sp. nov. differs from O. bipartita by the shape of tergum X, which is not twisted; two very small expansions of the tip of the phallus; and the absence of a lobe at the basal half of each inferior appendage. Variation of the body length 2.4 mm – 2.7 mm (n = 10).
Etymology. The name refers to the very long structures of the male genitalia. In Greek mythology, Priapus is the god of fertility, known for his oversized penis.
Holotype. 1 male, BRAZIL: Bahia: Igrapiúna , Reserva Ecológica da Michelin, Mata da Vila 5, 13°49'22.6''S, 39°12'6.5''W, 87 m, 2–4.iii.2012, D.M. Takiya, R. Ale-Rocha, R. A. Carvalho, and M.L. Monné cols., Malaise trap ( DZRJ).
