Remarks. According to the original series, four male syntypes are housed in ZMMU. Kimsey & Bohart (1991) placed the type series doubtfully in ZIN, where no type specimen is housed. Since all specimens were identified by Semenov-Tian-Shanskij as types, we consider these four specimens as syntypes, according to the Code (ICZN 1999: Article 72.4.1) and we designate the specimen from Katty Kurgan as the lectotype to fix the current interpretation of the species.

There are some discrepancies between the type localities and the collecting dates given in the original description and those written on the labels. The discrepancies could be mislabelling errors. In fact, the dates given in the original description match Fedtschenko's diary, whereas the colour labels pinned with the specimens differ from the dates in Fedtschenko's diary. In particular, the syntype collected at Katty-Kurgan is labelled as collected in June instead of April; the syntype collected at Kyzyl Kum is labelled the 28th of June instead of the 30th of April; the two specimens described from Samarkand (23.IV.1869 and 29.V.1869) are labelled as collected in the Zaravshan Valley (25.VI.1869 and 1.V.1869).

Current status. Philoctetes fedtschenkoi ( Semenov, 1932) (transferred to Philoctetes Abeille de Perrin by Kimsey & Bohart 1991: 255).
