Description. Holotype female. Dorsal color: Head shiny yellow; ocelli and eyes pale pink; antennal segment I yellow with olive-green sheen, segments II to IV brown; pronotum pale orange with dark castaneous punctures; anterior border and anterolateral margins yellow; scutellum entirely black; clavus pale pink, claval vein paler and punctures dark castaneous; corium pale pink, turning dark reddish near costal margin; costal margin olive-green; corial veins pale yellow, punctures dark reddish brown; apical margin yellow; hemelytral membrane yellow, translucent, with black basal angle; connexiva yellow; dorsal abdominal segments pale orange. Ventral color: Ground color yellow; apex of rostral segment IV brown; mesosternum black; mesopleura almost entirely black; femora with two dark reddish brown spots apically; tibia pale green. Structure: Head smooth; inner margin of eye rounded, non-tuberculate; rostrum nearly reaching middle of mesosternum; rostral segment I reaching anterior border of prosternum. Pronotal disk densely punctate, punctations small, dense, occasionally connected or fused; collar, anterior margin and calli smooth, non granulate or punctate; anterior angles slightly exposed, rounded; anterolateral borders obliquely straight, crenate with posterior third not emarginated or exposed; humeral angles rounded; posterolateral borders and posterior border smooth, almost straight.

Measurements (mm). Head length 1.17, width across eyes 2.05, interocular space 1.11, interocellar space 0.25, preocular distance 0.75; length antennal segments I, 3.16, II, 2.54, III, 2.10, IV, 4.09. Pronotal length 2.29, width across humeral angles 3.72. Scutellar length 1.67, width 1.61. Body length 13.80.

Male. Unknown.

Type material. Holotype, female, Brazil, Mato Grosso, Diamantino, Facenda Sao Joao, 450 m, 8-II-1981, C. Young ( CMNH).

Etymology. From the Latin nigra (= black) in combination with scutellum, referring to the entirely blackish scutellar disk.

Distribution. Brazil.

Diagnosis. Cnemomis nigroscutellata sp. nov., differs from all other species of Cnemomis spp., in having the scutellar disk entirely black. In other species the scutellum has yellow or orange colors, with or without brown stripes.
