Ischnorhina hamiltoni View in CoL sp. n.

( Figs 24–30 View FIGURES 15 – 30. 15 – 23 )

Type locality. ~ 1 km W of turnoff to Amazone Lodge (N4º 34'07.9" W52º 12'37.0"), Kaw Mountain Reserve, French Guiana.

Diagnosis. Head yellow-orange, postclypeus strongly compressed, angulated in profile with one longitudinal carina; pronotum with median carina, orange on anterior third and transitioning to dark brown on posterior twothirds; forewings brownish orange, thorax orange ventrally and laterally; abdomen orange with dark dorsum on posterior half.

Description. Head ( Figs 29–30 View FIGURES 15 – 30. 15 – 23 ): yellow-orange; rostrum with third segment black, extending to mesocoxae; compound eyes black, rounded, arranged transversely; vertex smooth, rectangular, lacking median carina; ocelli black, closer to each other than to compound eyes; tylus rectangular, smooth, lacking median carina; antennae pale orange, pedicel abundantly setose, basal body of flagellum conic without arista; postclypeus orange, strongly compressed, angulated in profile with one longitudinal carina, lateral grooves slightly marked, lateral ridge present and strongly marked. Thorax ( Figs 29–30 View FIGURES 15 – 30. 15 – 23 ): orange; pronotum orange with median and posterior areas dark brown, hexagonal in shape with median carina, anterior margin straight, lateralanterior margins straight, lateral posterior margin slightly sinuous, posterior margin grooved; scutellum brownish orange, with slight central concavity and slightly marked horizontal grooves; tegmina brownish orange with visible venation, apical reticulation poorly developed; hindwings hyaline with brownish venation, vein Cu1 thickened at base; legs orange with pro- and mesothoracic tibia black, all tarsi black; metathoracic tibia with two lateral spines (basal spine smaller than those located in apical crown, apical spine equal in size to those in apical crown); apical crown of tibia with two rows of spines; basitarsus with one row of spines covered by sparse setae; subungueal process present, similar to claws. Abdomen: segments I–III pale orange, segments IV–VI and pygofer black. Genitalia: Male: Pygofer ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 15 – 30. 15 – 23 ) with one digitiform process between anal tube and subgenital plates; subgenital plates ( Fig. 28 View FIGURES 15 – 30. 15 – 23 ) short with round apex; parameres ( Fig. 27 View FIGURES 15 – 30. 15 – 23 ) each with one apical spine directed posteriorly, apex long and slender, dorsal process developed, rounded and prominent; aedeagus ( Figs 24–25 View FIGURES 15 – 30. 15 – 23 ) cylindrical, curved with rounded apex, one pair of apical spiniform processes inserted laterally. Female ( Fig. 26 View FIGURES 15 – 30. 15 – 23 ): First valvula of ovipositor short and wide with acute apex and one basal process poorly developed, rounded, directed ventrally; second valvulae short, apical third of dorsal margin serrate, third valvulae short and wide, with long setae ventrally.

Measurements (mm). Body length: Ƥ 11.4, 3 10.3–11.3; pronotal length: Ƥ 2.0, 3 1.7–2.0; forewing length: Ƥ 9.0, 3 8.0–8.7; maximum width of head, including eyes: Ƥ 2.0, 3 2.0–2.2; width between humeral angles: Ƥ 3.3, 3 3.1–3.3.

Distribution. FRENCH GUIANA: Kaw Mountain Reserve.

Remarks. This species superficially resembles Ischnorhina ephippium (Fabricius) , but these species differ in the structure of the male genitalia (and specifically, in the shape of the aedeagal processes). Although the general genitalic structure of I. hamiltoni resembles that of the genus Neosphenorhina , the dorsal process of the paramere of I. hamiltoni is characteristic of Ischnorhina .

Etymology. This species is named in honor of Dr. K.G. Andrew Hamilton in recognition of his many contributions to the taxonomy of Cercopoidea.
