Lutzomyia (Tricholateralis) cruciata ( Coquillett 1907) View in CoL

Lutzomyia (Lutzomyia) cruciata (Coquillett) View in CoL : Young and Duncan 1994, 67 (taxonomy, references between 1947 and 1994, keys); Ibáñez-Bernal 1999, 78 (diagnosis, references, distribution).
Lutzomyia (Tricholateralis) cruciata (Coquillett) View in CoL : Galati 2003, 36, 93, 94 (list, keys).
Lutzomyia cruciata View in CoL is an important species in Mexico because it has been associated to human cases of cutaneous leishmaniasis in some areas of the country. There are also some reports of natural infection with Leishmania parasites ( Rowton et al. 1991, Canto-Lara et al. 2007, Sánchez-García et al. 2010), and for these reasons it is a probable vector of human leishmaniasis. In Veracruz, this species was known from the locality of Juan Díaz [Covarrubias] and also in Zongolica (Municipality of Zongolica) ( Ibáñez-Bernal 1999). Later, Ibáñez-Bernal et al. (2006) recorded Lu. cruciata View in CoL from the southwestern border of Xalapa city (colonia Coapexpan, 10-02-2001, S. Ibáñez- Bernal, col., human bait, 1 female) (Municipality of Xalapa) and from the localities of Tacahuite, el Pensamiento, Dos Arroyos, Loma de San Nicolás (Municipality of Juchique de Ferrer), and from El Zapotal (Municipality of Colipa). Godinez-Alvarez and Ibáñez-Bernal (2010) gave notice of this species’ presence in Campestre Las Bajadas (Municipality of Veracruz), Buena Vista (Municipality of Jesús Carranza), Zamora Caletón (Municipality of Saltabarranca), and Loma de los Ingleses (Municipality of Hueyapan de Ocampo). We add some records from other localities and municipalities, as follows.
