Generic diagnosis (after Moravec 2013). Daniconematidae . Body thread-like, head bluntly rounded, with pair of large dome-shaped forwardly directed papillae (cephalic elevations); there are also eight external paired papillae (two ventro-ventral, two latero-ventral, two dorso-lateral, two dorso-dorsal) and pair of lateral amphids ( Fig. 27 View FIGURE 27 A). Buccal capsule absent. Oesophagus muscular. Oesophageal gland highly developed, very long, extending posteriorly along intestine. Nerve ring encircling oesophagus in its anterior half, with excretory pore slightly below nerve ring level. Male tail long, lacking caudal alae; four pairs pre-cloacal and five pairs post-cloacal papillae. Spicules, gubernaculum or sclerotized copulatory plate absent; common cloacal duct opening on lobular genital projection. Female with functional anus. Female tail conical with rounded tip. Most of female body filled with uterus containing larvae. Vulva in anterior part of body. Monodelphic. Viviparous. Parasites of eels.
