Nematocarcinus faxoni Burukovsky, 2001b View in CoL , p. 1429, fig. 1, 2; 2003, p. 92–95, fig. 25, a – g; 2004, p. 558 (key); 2012, p. 112–115, fig. 36, 37 (distribution).

Material examined. MAR-ECO: Superstation 8, WR Local station 201, 30o00’S /02o49’E, 1074 m, 2 females (13.6–16.0), MNRJ 23607; Superstation 9, WR Local station 201, 32o50´S /01o49´E, 1107 m, 1 ovigerous female (27.9), MNRJ 23608.

Description. Body slender; integument hard, surface smooth, shiny. Rostrum straight, moderately slender, overreaching antennular peduncle with more than one third of its length, reaching or overreaching scaphocerite tip; rostrum length 70% of the carapace length (Fig. 1A); distance from rostrum apex to the rostrum distal dorsal tooth is similar than that between the remaining rostrum dorsal teeth; rostrum dorsal margin (including postrostral crest) with 20–32 (usually 20–27) teeth; rostrum ventral margin with zero to 5, (usually 2–3 teeth) (Fig. 1A). Eyes normally developed, its width larger than the diameter of the eye stalk.

Posterodorsal margin of third abdominal somite somewhat developed, rounded. Continuation of its sides when crossing forms an angle of about 90o (Fig. 1B). Pleura of fifth abdominal somite with or without distal tooth, its sides forming an angle near to 90o or more (Fig. 1C). Inner surface of the anterior margin of the pleura of the fifth abdominal somite with an elongated low tubercle, its length approximately 3 times its width or height.

Distoventral organ at sixth abdominal somite formed by two single parallel rows of long plumose setae, relatively widely spaced, extending to a half or to the distal end of spots (Fig. 1D); spots located at the ventral surface of sixth abdominal somite; spots length 1.5–2 times its width, distance between them 1–3 times its width (Fig. 1D).

Telson with 6–9 (usually 7) pairs of small dorsolateral spines; without accessory spines (Fig. 1E).

Distribution. East Pacific from 26o58´to 16o33´N and 99o52´to 11o28´W. Western Atlantic from 27o58´to 23o47´N and 67o to 78o W ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 ). South Mid Atlantic Ridge from 30o00’ to 32 o50´S and 0 2 o49’ to 0 1 o49´E ( Fig. 11 View FIGURE 11 ). At depths from 898 to 1839 m.

Remarks. The material from SMAR examined herein, agrees with Burukovsky (2001b; 2004) data, only small differences were observed: the pleura fifth abdominal somite with or without distal tooth; the distoventral organ rows of setae extending to a half of posteroventral spots length or to the distal end of spots and the distance between spots 1–3 times spot width.
