General distribution. Europe: Albania, Austria, Bulgaria, Bosnia Herzegovina, Croatia, Czech Republic, FYR Macedonia, Germany, Greece (incl. Ionian Is.), Hungary, Italy, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia. West Asia: Caucasus, Turkey ( Zapparoli 2002; Minelli et al. 2006).
Chorotype. S-European (SEU).

Ecological notes. 0–2400 m; in Carpinus woods, in Platanus orientalis riparian woods, in Abies cephalonica , Pinus nigra and Fagus sylvatica woods, and in agroecosystems ( Dobroruka 1965; Zapparoli 1996, 2002).
Remarks. The old records of Chaetechelyne vesuviana Newport, 1845 , and C. montana (Meinert, 1870) from Peloponnisos, published by Daday (1889), are assigned to this species ( Zapparoli 2002).
