Subgenus Heterotetramelus s. str.

Diagnosis. Pronotum with a faint transverse groove; hypostomal ridges reaching to middle between anterior submental margin and posterior tentorial pits; hypomeral ridges complete; anterolateral portions of prosternum laterally not overlapping with hypomera; mesoventrite in front of mesocoxae with diffuse median longitudinal carina, which is posteriorly gradually fused with metaventrite and lacks posterior tip; mesanepisterna lacking setal brushes.

Composition & distribution. Heterotetramelus (s. str.) comprises seven species, all known to occur in New Caledonia: H. (s. str.) caledonicus Franz, 1971 , stat. n., H. (s. str.) hauensis Franz, 1971, stat. n., H. (s. str.) koghiensis Franz, 1971, stat. n., H. (s. str.) tonnieri Franz, 1971, stat. n., H. (s. str.) cochereaui Franz, 1971, stat. n., H.
