Specimen examined. MADAGASCAR: (holotype ♂, OXUM) .

Remarks. The description of M. cothurnata is based on a single specimen from Madagascar. A male [Bigot collection, OXUM] carries a holotype label, and is in good condition with only the styles and flagella absent. Data labels are: [Circle, narrow border red] ‘ Holotype; [white square] Allocotosia / cothurnata J. Bigot / 720 in coll. Bigot [in script]; [white square] 720 A. cothurnata ♂ / Ommatini J.F. Bigot / Madagascar F. Bigot; and Type Dip: 349 / Allocotosia cothurnata Bigot / Hope Dept Oxford. However, the type is Cophinopoda pulchripes Bigot, 1859 .
