Magulla janeirus ( Keyserling 1891)
( Fig. 8 View FIGURE 8 )
Ischnocolus janeirus Keyserling 1891: 6 .
Magulla janeira: Pocock 1895: 226 View in CoL ; Mello-Leitão 1923: 136, 137; Bücherl 1949: 263, 266, 267; Caporiacco 1955: 277; Gerschman de Pikelin & Schiapelli 1973: 75.
Cyclosternum janeirum: Raven 1985: 155 ; Platnick 2008.
Type material: Holotype female ( BMNH 1890.7.1.344), Aldeia de Pedra, Serra Vermelha, Itaocara, 21°40'S, 42°4'W, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; examined through photographs taken by Janet Beccaloni ( BMNH).
Remarks: The original description is not detailed. Pocock (1895) tentatively transferred Ischnocolus janeirus to Magulla without further comment. Simon (1903) shared with Pocock the doubt about inclusion of this species in Magulla but did not offer an alternative. Roewer (1942), in his catalog, left it in Magulla and noted that the type specimen is a juvenile female. Bücherl (1949) pointed out differences between M. obesa and M. janeirus based only on the original descriptions. Gerschman de Pikelin & Schiapelli (1973) examined the type (deposited in BMNH) and confirmed the inclusion of this species in Magulla , also without further comment. From photographs of the type specimen of Ischnocolus janeirus taken by Janet Beccaloni (BMNH), we confirm the inclusion of the species in Magulla . However, the seminal receptacle was dissected but not found within the vial, according Ms. Beccaloni. Since this specimen had already been considered as juvenile, we suspect that explains the absence of the seminal receptacle. Hence, Magulla janeirus is confirmed as a valid species.
