Dorythrips Hood, 1931 View in CoL . Type species D. chilensis Hood View in CoL
Macropterous, dark-bodied species. Head usually with an inter-antennal cephalic process, with at least one pair of long interocellar setae and two pairs of long postocular setae ( Figs 1, 15, 17, 19). Tentorial bridge present and fully developed. Maxillary palps 3-segmented, labial palps 2-segmented. Fore tibiae with two slender setae at apex ( Figs 6–7). Antennae 9-segmented, segments III–IV each with a circumpolar sensorium. segments II–IX with rings of microtrichia ( Figs 3, 12). Forewings with parallel margins ( Fig. 11). Pronotum with at least several pairs of long setae on posterior margin ( Figs 16, 18, 20). Metanotum with concentric sculpture lines bearing microtrichia ( Fig. 2). Tergite X posterior margin with pair of well-developed trichobothria. Sternites with row of discal setae, these setae as long as posteromarginal setae (4, 13); sternite VII posterior margin with pair of lobes.
