Emended diagnosis: Males and females of C. petropolium can be distinguished from congeners by the presence of three square marks on the dorsum of opisthosoma ( Figs. 1A–B, 3C, 4C). Males are distinguished by the lack of a tibial apophysis on leg I, having a stout apical spine on tibia I ( Fig. 4D), and by the curved and short embolus of the palpal bulb ( Figs. 4E–F). Females are distinguished by the spermathecae with two receptacles with many apical lobes ( Fig. 3D).
Description of female (CAD 785): Total length 16.7. Carapace length 5.7, width 4.9. Carapace brown, darker than male ( Fig. 3A). Eye tubercle: length 0.9, width 1.1. Anterior eye row slightly procurved, posterior slightly recurved. Labium length 0.5, width 1.1. Sternum length 2.8, width 2.8. Cheliceral furrow with 11 teeth on prolateral margin. Labium with 2 cuspules. Maxilla with 7 cuspules on each side ( Fig. 3B). Palp: femur 2.8 / patella 2.1 / tibia 1.5 / tarsus 2.0 / total 8.4. Legs I: femur 3.7 / patella 2.7 / tibia 2.6 / metatarsus 2.1 / tarsus 1.7 / total 12.8. II: 3.3 / 2.4 / 2.2 / 1.9 / 1.5 / 11.3. III: 3.0 / 1.8 / 2.0 / 2.5 / 1.4 / 10.8. IV: 4.3 / 2.3 / 2.9 / 3.7 / 1.9 / 15.1. Spines: tarsi without spines. Palp: femur (d) 0-0-p1, patella 0, tibia 0, metatarsus (v) 0-0-ap3; Legs: I: femur (d) 0-0-p1, patella 0, tibia 0, metatarsus (v) 0-1-1; II: femur (d) 0-0-p1, patella 0, tibia 0, metatarsus (v) 0-1-1; III: femur (d) 0-0-2, patella (p) 1, tibia (r) 1-1-0, (v) 0-3-ap3, (p) 1-1-0, metatarsus (r) 0-2-1ap, (v) 1-3-ap3, (p) 2-3-1ap; IV: femur (d) 0-0-1, patella (p) 1, tibia (r) 1-1-1, (v) 2-2-ap3, (p) 1-1-0, metatarsus (d) 0-0- 1, (r) 1-1-1, (v) 2-3- ap3, (p) 1-1-1. Paired tarsal claws of I, II, III and IV smooth. Scopulae on ventral metatarsi: one third of metatarsi I, II and III occupied by scopula ( Fig. 3F), and IV with scopula divided by a longitudinal smooth area ( Fig. 3E). Tarsal scopulae: I undivided, II, III and IV divided by a longitudinal band of setae, wider at distal portion ( Fig. 3F). Opisthosoma brown, darker than male and ornamented with three square marks on dorsum ( Fig. 3C). Abdomen length 8.2, width 5.6. Spermathecae as in diagnosis ( Fig. 3D).
Distribution: Southeastern Brazil: Rio de Janeiro state ( Fig. 6).
