Parasterope Kornicker, 1975 View in CoL
Parasterope Poulsen, 1965: 361 View in CoL [nomen nudum; without type species] Parasterope Kornicker, 1975: 401 View in CoL [designated type species]
Type species: Asterope muelleri Skogsberg, 1920 by original designation, Kornicker, 1975.
Remarks.— Poulsen (1965) erected this genus for four existing species and seven new species but did not designate a type species. Kornicker (1975) designated the type species as Asterope muelleri Skogsberg, 1920 and in doing so validated the genus name. Parasterope is the largest genus in the family, with 39 species, including the new species described here. The genus is diagnosed by the unique combination of characters: first antenna sseta with configuration 0+6, first antenna dseta minute or absent, mandible eseta present, mandible exopod length greater than 50 percent length of dorsal margin of endopod article 1. Specific differences are based on setal counts on appendages, nodes (protuberances) on appendages, presence or absence of lateral eye, and carapace size.
