Holotype, male, labeled: “ ECUADOR: Napo Limoncocha [-0.4, -76.6] 15 June 1977 W.E. Steiner // [large red label] HOLOTYPE ♂ Thisiomorphus inaequalis Pollock ”, in NMNH.
Allotype, female, labeled: “ ECUADOR: Sucumbios Sacha Lodge, 0.5°S, 76.5°W, 270 m, 16-29-VIII-1994, Hibbs, ex: malaise // [barcode label] SM0024575 KUNHM-ENT // [large red label] ALLOTYPE ♀ Thisiomorphus inaequalis Pollock ”, in SEMC.
Derivation of specific epithet. From the Latin “ inaequalis ”, meaning “unequal” or “different”, named for the distinct difference in color between the forebody and elytra of individuals of this species.
Diagnosis. This is one of four species in the genus exhibiting a reddish pronotum and blue-black elytra; T. inaequalis is the only species in this group that has a red head and scutellum, with dark antennae and elytra.
Description. Measurements (mm, N=2): HL = 0.84–1.20; PL = 0.88–1.20; EL = 3.36–4.72; GHW = 1.00– 1.28; GPW = 1.12–1.52; GEW = 1.80–2.40; TL = 5.08–7.12. Ratios: EL/GEW = 1.87–1.97; GPW/PL = 1.27; TL/ GEW = 2.82–2.97; GPW/GHW = 1.12–1.19. With characters of Thisiomorphus , and the following:
Body elongate, very narrowly oval (TL/GEW 2.90), lateral elytral margins slightly arcuate.
Color. Antennae dark, rufo-piceous to dark piceous, antennomeres 10–11 slightly lighter than basal antennomeres; maxillary palpi rufous, with last palpomere piceous; head, pronotum and scutellum concolorous, uniformly rufous; elytra dark piceous to near black, with distinct blue-purple metallic lustre; legs dark, piceous, tarsi somewhat lighter than femora or tibiae; venter (except for rufous prosternum) dark, piceous.
Antennae moderately elongate; antennomeres 3–7 filiform; antennomeres 8–10 relatively elongate, slightly expanded distally.
Pronotum moderately wider than long (GPW/PL 1.27), slightly wider than head (GPW/GHW 1.16); lateral margins slightly arcuate, maximum width near midlength; dorsal surface evenly convex, without depressions.
Male genitalia. Parameres slightly shorter than basale, inner margins straight basally; basale with anterior margin straight, lateral margins evenly curved.
Distribution. This species is known only two localities in Sucumbíos, northeastern ECUADOR.
