Subfamily Acontiinae Guenée View in CoL View at ENA
Genus Acontia Ochsenheimer, 1816: 91 View in CoL
Type species: Noctua solaris [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775: 90, by subsequent designation by Duponchel, in Godart & Duponchel, 1829 [March 21st]: 72. Collection destroyed (Horn & Kahle 1936: 243))
= Desmophora Stephens, 1829 [August]: 109 (TS: Phalaena catena Sowerby, 1806: 29 , pl. 14, by monotypy, but cited as Desmophora elegans Stephens, 1829 , an unnecessary replacement name, with catena in synonymy) = Euphasia Stephens, 1830: 115 (TS: Phalaena catena Sowerby, 1806: 29 )
= Heliothera Sodoffsky, 1837: 89 View in CoL (Proposed, unnecessarily, as an objective replacement name for Acontia Ochsenheimer, 1816 View in CoL , which Sodoffsky considered to be inappropriate)
= Porrotha Gistl, 1848 View in CoL : viii (Proposed, unnecessarily, as an objective replacement name for Acontia Ochsenheimer, 1816 View in CoL , which Gistl considered to be a junior homonym of Acontias Cuvier, 1817 View in CoL (Reptilia)).
= Tima Walker, [1858] View in CoL 1857: 839 (TS: Phalaena margaritata Drury, 1782: 28 View in CoL , pl. 21, fig. 6, Index, by monotypy, but included by Walker as marginata , an incorrect subsequent spelling. Type locality stated to be New York, but this was probably an error as this species is not known to occur in the New World, but is found in southern Africa. Tima Walker View in CoL is a junior homonym of Tima Eschscholtz, 1829: 103 (Coelenterata) View in CoL . There is no objective replacement name but P. margaritata Drury View in CoL is congeneric with Phalaena catena Sowerby View in CoL , the type species of Desmophora Stephens, 1829 . The latter is therefore available for use as a subjective replacement name Nye (1975).
= Hoplotarache Hampson, 1910 View in CoL : xviii, 712 (TS: Tarache inionides Hampson, 1905: 435 )
=Cardiosace Hampson, 1910: xviii, 706 (TS: Tarache sphendonistis Hampson, 1902: 384 )
= Hypercalymnia Hampson, 1910 (TS: Hypercalymnia metaxantha Hampson, 1910 )
= Stylorache Hampson, 1910: 7 , 701 (TS: Stylorache albida Hampson, 1910: 701 , fig. 198)
= Procriosis Hampson, 1910: 4 , 711 (TS: Procriosis dileuca Hampson, 1910: 711 , fig. 202)
= Chelichares Hampson, 1910: 718 (TS: Chelichares nubifera Hampson, 1910: 718 , fig. 205)
= Ceratostrotia Warren View in CoL , in Seitz, 1913: 291 ( TS: Tarache melanchlaena Swinhoe, 1891: 148 )
= Rhodotarache Warren, 1914: 478 View in CoL (TS: Rhodotarache roseofusca Warren, 1914: 478 View in CoL , pl. 40, fig. 17)
= Fredina Brandt, 1939: 242 View in CoL (TS: Fredina esmeralda Brandt, 1939: 242 View in CoL , pl. i, fig. 6)
Desmophora Stephens, 1829 [June]: 43. Both the generic and the only included name elegans Stephens were nomina nuda.
Chalichares; Neave 1939: 665 (An incorrect subsequent spelling)
