Genus Acontia Ochsenheimer, 1816: 91

Type species: Noctua solaris [Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775: 90, by subsequent designation by Duponchel, in Godart & Duponchel, 1829 [March 21st]: 72. Collection destroyed (Horn & Kahle 1936: 243))

= Desmophora Stephens, 1829 [August]: 109 (TS: Phalaena catena Sowerby, 1806: 29 , pl. 14, by monotypy, but cited as Desmophora elegans Stephens, 1829 , an unnecessary replacement name, with catena in synonymy) = Euphasia Stephens, 1830: 115 (TS: Phalaena catena Sowerby, 1806: 29 )

= Heliothera Sodoffsky, 1837: 89 (Proposed, unnecessarily, as an objective replacement name for Acontia Ochsenheimer, 1816 , which Sodoffsky considered to be inappropriate)

= Porrotha Gistl, 1848 : viii (Proposed, unnecessarily, as an objective replacement name for Acontia Ochsenheimer, 1816 , which Gistl considered to be a junior homonym of Acontias Cuvier, 1817 (Reptilia)).

= Tima Walker, [1858] 1857: 839 (TS: Phalaena margaritata Drury, 1782: 28 , pl. 21, fig. 6, Index, by monotypy, but included by Walker as marginata , an incorrect subsequent spelling. Type locality stated to be New York, but this was probably an error as this species is not known to occur in the New World, but is found in southern Africa. Tima Walker is a junior homonym of Tima Eschscholtz, 1829: 103 (Coelenterata) . There is no objective replacement name but P. margaritata Drury is congeneric with Phalaena catena Sowerby , the type species of Desmophora Stephens, 1829 . The latter is therefore available for use as a subjective replacement name Nye (1975).
