Echinogorgia stellifera ( Thomson & Crane, 1909) new comb.
Astromuricea stellifera Thomson & Crane, 1909: 130–131 View in CoL , pl. fig. 1–3 (Kiu, Beyt Harbour); Thomson & Crane 1909a: 364 (same material); Breedy & Guzman 2011: 29.
Heterogorgia stellifera Kükenthal 1924: 234 View in CoL .
Opinion: This species does occur in the region.
Justification:
Literature analysis: This species, described from the region, was wrongly transferred to the genus Heterogorgia by Kükenthal in 1924, a genus that is confined to the eastern Pacific and the western Atlantic. Breedy & Guzman (2011) pointed out the error and maintained the original name, but the few sclerites illustrated by Thomson & Crane (1909) indicate it is a species of Echinogorgia . Venkataraman et al. (2004: 291) just list the species under the original name.
