Distribution: Palaearctic: Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Greece, Gruzia, Iran, Italy, Macedonia, Palestine, Turkey, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Yugoslavia.
Adults suck the nectar of flowers especially of the Pink Scabious and Thistle ( Austen, 1937). The larvae of these flies are important consumers of egg pods of locusts ( Acrididae ) ( Austen, 1937 and du Merle, 1975).
