Genus Cimaria View in CoL gen. nov.

Type species: Cimaria vargasi sp. nov.

Diagnosis. Small, globose-conic pyramidellid with thick, characteristically pitted shell. Pitting is continuous from just below the suture to the base without interruption or change at periphery. With strong subsutural chord. Very small, inturned protoconch. Distinct columellar fold.

Etymology: The genus is named for 'Centro de Investigacion en Ciencias del Mar y Limnologia' (CIMAR), at the University of Costa Rica, my host institution during my brief, but profitable visit to Costa Rica in 1994, and again during a four month stay during my sabbathical in the fall of 1995.
