Type:— BRAZIL. Bahia: 18 km WNW along road from Vila do Rio de Contas to Pico das Almas, 21 March 1977, R.M. Harley 19796 (holotype: K 000187652 digital image!; isotypes: K 000167653 digital image!, NY!) .

Shrub or subshrub 0.4–1 m high; branches lanate; internodal stem wings absent. Leaves 3-foliolate, digitate, petioles 3–10 mm long; leaflets elliptics or ovate, 1–3.7 × 0.6–2.2 cm, lanate on both surfaces; stipules 3–4 mm long, linear. Inflorescence leaf- opposed raceme, 4–13 cm long, 5– to 12-flowered; peduncles 0.5–2 cm long; pedicel 5–9 mm long; bracts 4–5 mm long, linear- lanceolate, persistent; bracteoles 1 mm long, linear, persistent. Flowers with calyx 10–12 mm long, with lobes twice or three times as long as the tube, woolly; corolla yellow, veined reddish brown; the standard petal 1.3–1.6 × 1.2–1.5 cm; wing petals 1.3–1.5 cm long; keel petals 1.2–1.5 cm long, glabrate or ciliate on the upper margin, untwisted; ovary 3–4 mm long, stipitate; style curved. Legumes 1.3–2 × 0.7–0.9 cm, cilyndric- obovate, densely lanate, brown at maturity, ca. 10-seeded; seeds 3 × 3 mm, seed coat orange or brown.

Distribution and Ecology: — Crotalaria harleyi occurs only in Bahia state in Brazil, in the proximities of the Chapada Diamantina region. It is restricted to areas of cerrado and caatinga on sandy soils at elevations between 800–1800 m.
