Lactistomyia serrata Bezzi View in CoL
( Figs. 46–47 View FIGURES 46 – 47 , 62 View FIGURES 54 – 63 )
Lactistomyia serrata Bezzi, 1909:312 View in CoL ; Collin, 1933:28 (citation); Curran, 1934:7 (key); Smith, 1967:14 (catalogue).
Diagnosis. Thorax brown to black, except postalar callus yellow; fore and mid legs dark yellow, hind leg dark brown except apex of femur, extremities of tibia and tarsus dark yellow to brown; wing brownish, slightly darker in the basal half and costal area, cell r1 brown, stigma concolorous with cell r1; hind femur dilated, anteroventral row with 12 spines more ventrally located, posteroventral row with 7–9 spines being 4–6 on basal half, 2 more ventrally located on distal third and 1 preapical; hind tibia slightly arched, flattened anterior surface with longitudinal furrow; hypandrium very long, about twice length of left epandrial lamella; hypandrial lobe greatly elongate, enlarged, with rounded apex, longer than base of hypandrium; epandrial lamellae with long and robust wavy preapical bristles, as long as length of respective lamella, longer on left lamella; surstyli long, right surstylus robust, left surstylus slender.
Species revised by Rafael & Ale-Rocha (1995) including only drawings of the male terminalia. The female terminalia is presented here.
Description of female terminalia: Tg7 with a broad longitudinal dorsal line without sclerotization; Tg8 partially sclerotised, St8 protuberant in the base, divided in two longitudinal narrow plates united in the base ( Figs. 46, 47 View FIGURES 46 – 47 ).
Remarks. Females of L. pulchra sp.n. and L. serrata are very similar. However, the pruinescence of the scutum is brown, the pterostigma is brown and defined and the terminalia is long in L. serrata , while in L pulchra the scutum has brown pruinescence mixed with grey pruinescence, the pterostigma is brown but faintly defined and the terminalia is comparatively shorter.
Variations: some specimens of Brazil (Rondônia) have darker general coloration, with legs and thorax predominantly black.
