Diagnosis. Medium to large size (45–50 mm approx.), frons oval and thick, eyes ovoid and elongated vertically (fig. 7). Pronotal disc rounded, or flattened; Lateral lobes of pronotum deeper than long; anterior margin with a distinct concavity at top, remainder of anterior margin approximately straight, posterior margin slightly obtuse, ventral margin outspreading backwards, slightly sinuate, humeral sinus slightly developed or absent (fig. 3). Tegmen lanceolate, fore coxae armed with a spine, tympanic organ conchate on both sides of the fore tibiae (fig. 9). Hind tibiae gradually expanded, varying between the genera. Meso- and metasternum with rounded and expanded lateral lobes. Tenth terguite unmodified, male cerci simple, with antero-apical or apical modifications. Females with ovipositor as long as half of hind femora, valves slightly crenulated.
Type genus. Vossia Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1891.
