Euphthiracarus sikhotealinicus View in CoL sp. nov.
( Figs 2 View FIGURE 2 . A–C)
Description
Measurements of holotype: prodorsum: length 333, width 237, height 136, sensillus 111, setae: in 131, le and ro 85.8, ex 55.5; notogaster: length 692, width 414, height 454, setae: c 1 85.8, h 1 116, ps 1 101; genitoaggenital region 268 x 70.7; anoadanal region 313 x 60.6.
Colour light brown. Surface of body covered with deep, round foveoles smaller than are distances between them.
Prodorsum with two pairs of lateral carinae; dorsal strongly marked but with irregular line, ventral carinae weak. Sensilli rigid, without head, pointed distally and covered sparsely with small spines. Interlamellar and lamellar setae also rigid, sparsely covered with small spines in distal half, rostral setae slender, rough. Long exobothridial setae. Distance between lamellar and rostral setae shorter than between interlamellar and lamellar setae. The same distance between lamellar and rostral setae.
Notogaster with relatively short (c 1 <c 1 d 1) setae, with sparse small spines in distal half. Setae c 1 and c 2 far from anterior margin, setae c 3 shorter and not as far from border. Opening of opisthosomal gland and arrangement of lyrifissures and vestigial setae typical of genus.
Ventral region. Nine pairs of genital setae with formula 6:3; two pairs of rather thick aggenital setae similar in length. Anal setae an 1 and an 2 attenuate and flagellate, longer than rough an 3 and adanal setae.
Chaetome of legs (without tarsi): I: 135(2)5(1), II: 143(1)5(1), III: 222(1)3(1), IV: 211(1)2(1). Tarsi heterotridactylous.
Types
Holotype: Russia, Far East , Sikhote Alin’ , Manteifia Mts. , litter in birch bushes, 10 IX 1971, leg. N.S. Sagdeeva; one paratype: Russia, Far East, the SikhoteAlin’ reserve, Szanguj, under cedar, 20 IX 1972, leg. N.S. Sagdieva; three paratypes: Russia, Far East, the SikhoteAlin’ reserve, “Ternyj moch ” at the seaside, IX 1971, leg. N.S. Sagdeeva.
Etymology The specific name sikhotealinicus refers to the SichoteAlinsky reserve.
Comparison
The new species is distinguishable by the presence of deep foveoles on the surface of body and distally pointed rigid sensilli. The similar Japanese species E. (E.) foveolatus Aoki, 1980 has larger foveoles on the surface of body, larger than the distance between them as well only seven pairs of genital setae.
