Oxysarcodexia injuncta ( Walker, 1858) View in CoL

( Figs 148–150 View FIGURES 148–156 )

Sarcophaga injuncta Walker, 1858: 208 View in CoL ; Brazil. Lectotype female [designated by Lopes (1975: 538)] in NHMUK (not examined). [ Aldrich (1930: 19) mentioned: “Female, Brazil. Not found in British Museum”, but Lopes (1975b: 538) examined a “female holotype ”; we consider Lopes to have made a lectotype designation in accordance with Article 74.5 of the Code ( ICZN 1999), having “unambiguously selected a particular syntype to act as the unique name-bearing type” of the nominal taxon Sarcophaga injuncta Walker, 1858 View in CoL .]

Oxysarcodexia plaumanni Lopes, 1946b: 102 View in CoL ; Brazil, São Paulo, Eugênio Lefevre. Holotype male, female allotype, five male paratypes and six female paratypes in MNRJ.

Diagnosis. Male. Length 7.5–8.0 mm. Postocular plate with golden pollinosity. Ocellar bristles weakly developed. Thorax with intense golden pollinosity, abdominal T5 without golden pollinosity, only silvery pollinosity. Two welldifferentiated posterior and 1–3 smaller anterior post-sutural dorsocentrals. Apical scutellar bristles present. Legs blackish. Abdomen with silvery pollinosity. T3 with 2 pairs of lateral marginal bristles, T4 with 1 pair of median marginal and 2 pairs of lateral marginal bristles. ST5 with deep median cleft with margins almost parallel and with scattered bristles on arms. Cercus straight in lateral view, with only the distal third slightly curved backwards, and with expanded obliquely cut apex and dorsal subapical barb. Cercus with bristles ventrally over full length. Cerci with distal third narrower than middle part in posterior view; diverging. Pregonite with expanded base and sudden narrowing at apex; unicolorous. Postgonite with expanded base, gradually narrowing to apex; unicolorous. Distiphallus with ventroapical concavity with serrated margin, a lateroapical furrow, rounded apex, straight dorsal outline and lateroapical expansions. Vesica symmetrical, with lateral lobes and rounded median projection of main branch; distal lobes well developed, with filaments, tapering, sclerotized, with spines on both dorsal and ventral surfaces.

Remarks. Oxysarcodexia injuncta is similar to O. paulistanensis , differing by the golden pollinosity on the thorax, the straight dorsal outline of the distiphallus, the rounded distiphallus apex and the lateral furrow that produces a posteroventral notch in the apex of the distiphallus, the composition of the distal lobes of the vesica, which are not subdivided and equipped with long, ventrally-directed spines, and the narrower expansion of the cercus tip ( Lopes 1946b). See also remarks under O. bikini . The female was described by Lopes (1975b) and shown by Tibana & Mello (1985) to possess an undivided T7.

Distribution. NEOTROPICAL. Brazil (Amazonas*, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais *, Paraná , Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina , São Paulo).

Biology. This species has been reared under laboratory conditions, although no further information about its development was found in the literature, except for its attraction to human feces ( Lopes 1973b). It appears to be associated with highlands, as pointed out by Lopes (1973b) and confirmed from the material examined, consisting of specimens mainly collected at high elevations in Brazil (Serra do Japi at 1250 m, São Paulo state; Serra do Lopo at 1780 m, Minas Gerais), with the exception of one specimen from the lowlands of Rio Japura in the Amazon.
