Hydraena guadelupensis Orchymont, 1923: 37 View in CoL .— Perkins, 1980: 145.— Jäch et al. 2000: 80.— Brojer & Jäch, 2011: 77.
Diagnosis: Habitus as in Fig. 30. Male terminalia: Ventrite VII as in Fig. 12 View FIGURES 8–13 , subrounded, anterior margin angulate; spiculum gastrale long and straight, firmly attached to ventrite; terminal tergite reniform ( Fig. 6 View FIGURES 2–7 ). Female terminalia: Gonocoxite ( Fig. 23 View FIGURES 21–26 ) with outer plate symmetrical, anterolateral condyles small and a pair of subapical tufts of setae; inner plate symmetrical with a elongate impression; last tergite ( Fig. 24 View FIGURES 21–26 ) elliptic, with a distal row of stout, small setae. Male genitalia as in Figs. 31–32 View FIGURES 31–34 . Spermatheca: Long and slender, markedly angulate in lateral view ( Figs. 52–53 View FIGURES 45–55 ); spermathecal duct sinuate, enlarged in proximal half. For a detailed external description see Perkins (1980: 145).
Material examined: Santiago de Cuba: 3 males, 7 females (in alcohol) ( BSC-E) 4 males, 1 female (drymounted) ( CUMS): “ CUBA: Santiago de Cuba, Río San / José, Chan-Chan , Loma del Gato / 20º01’49,4’N 76º02’11,5’’W, 353 m / 25-VI-2009, coll.: A. Deler- / Hernández & F. Cala-Riquelme ” .
Distribution: Costa Rica, Jamaica, Virgin Islands and Guadalupe ( Perkins 1980). The presence of H. guadelupensis in eastern Cuba ( Fig. 57 View FIGURES 56–58 ) gives continuity to its distribution through the Caribbean.
Habitat: In eastern Cuba it has been collected exclusively in the margins of a well preserved mountain stream shaded by a dense forest canopy, as in Fig. 62 View FIGURES 62–64 .
