Specimens of 8 of the 11 species of the family Chirostylidae had representatives available in the collections ( Table 1). Only two species, Gastroptychus spinifer ( A. Milne-Edwards, 1880) and Uroptychus nitidus (A. Milne- Edwards, 1880) had sufficient sample sizes to warrant statistical analyses. We used specimens collected throughout the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean ( Fig. 2 View FIGURE 2 ).
