Genus Hexapleomera Dudich, 1931 View in CoL
[New Japanese name: Urashima-tanaisu-zoku]
Amended diagnosis. Pleon with five pleonites; pleonites 1 and 2 without transverse row of setae. Maxilliped palp article 1 without outer distal expansion. Antenna with six articles; article 2 without tuft of distal setae. Pleopod 3 slightly reduced. Uropod short, each article two, or rarely three, times as long as wide; most distal article of uropod not reduced. Sexual dimorphism in chelipeds pronounced; chela in sexually dimorphic males about 1.5 times wider than chelipedal carpus.
Remarks. Although various authors ( Sieg 1980; Edgar 2008; Bamber 2012) have considered the state of having pereonites 1–3 together wider than long to be a key diagnostic character for Hexapleomera , some species (e.g., H. bultidactyla and H. wombat ) do not show this state, and we therefore excluded it from the diagnosis.
