Later, Yokochi (2012) synonymized this taxon with E. monbeigi . In 2021, a series of specimens of both sexes of this taxon were collected by the first author in his field survey in Nujiang valley, and the exmination of the wing pattern as well as the male genitalia reveals that uedai is in fact a bona taxon, differing from its related congeners, e.g. E. bellula, E. monbeigi and E. yunnanica by the combination of the following characters: 1) the patches in spaces 4–6 in the medial band on forewing upperside are distinctly longer, especially in male; 2) the patch in space 6 in the medial band on forewing upperside is more oval-shaped, while in its congeners such patch is more rectangular; 3) the discal band on hindwing is much broader than E. bellula and 4) in male genitalia, the valva is distinctly longer (the male genitalia of the true E. bellula is unknown, see below). Since the male genitalia of the true E. bellula from North Laos is unknown, we temporarily still treated the taxon uedai as a valid subspecies of it, viz. E. bellula uedai stat. rev.

Remarks. It is worth noting that the status of E. bellula is unclear. This taxon was originally described as a subspecies of E. duda based upon a series of specimens from Laos and Vietnam, and later raised to specific rank by Yokochi (2009). The type locality of E. bellula is Xam Neua, North Laos, but the male genitalia illustrated by Yokochi (2009, 2012) were from Vietnamese population, while those of the Laotian population are still unknown. Superficially, the Vietnamese population differs from Laotian population by the broader hindwing discal band, suggesting the possiblity that Vietnamese population represents a different species. For exactly the same reason, it is possible that the taxon uedai, which also bears a broader hindwing discal band, should be treated as a distinct species. To clarify both issues, the examination of the male genitalia of E. bellula from its type locality is necessary.

Biology. In China, Euthalia bellula uedai is observed on wing from July to August, and can be found puddling on wet soil (Fig. 67) in dense forest at the altitude around 2700 m (Fig. 68).

Distribution. Taxon yunnanica was originally described as a subspecies of E. insulae Hall, 1930 from Taiwan Island and subsequently transferred under E. alpherakyi Oberthür, 1907 as a subspecies (Lang 2012). Shortly afterwards this taxon was raised to species rank by Yokochi (2012). In the current study, we found that the wing pattern and the male genitalia of E. yunnanica are very similar to those of E. monbeigi, suggesting a close relationship between them. Geographically, E. monbeigi is only known from a restricted area around its type locality, Tsekou (near Cizhong Village in Deqin County), while typical E. yunnanica is currently known more southwards and eastwards in Zhongdian, Lijiang and Weixi, and no sympatric record was ever reported. It is possible that the two taxa are conspecific and E. yunnanica should be downgraded as a subspecies of E. monbeigi or even synonymized with it. However due to the rarity of E. monbeigi, we leave the formal treatment to the future when more material of E. monbeigi becomes available. It is also worth noting that the male, illustrated in plate XXII, figure 16 in Lang (2012) as E. alpherakyi yunnanica, is the misidentification of E. staudingeri yunnana Oberthür, 1907 .

Distribution. VI.2016, Yigong, Bomi County, Xizang Autonomous Region, China leg. Zhao-hui Pan, dissection No. STS-34888 (TAAHU).

Discussion. Taxon tsangpoi was originally described as a bona species based on two males from Metok (Motuo) County, Southeast Xizang, China (H. Huang 1999). Later, H. Huang (2002) synonymized tsangpoi with E. duda (Figs. 15–23, 30–38, 45 a-g, 58, 59, 62–65), stating that both taxa cannot be separated soundly from each other. However, Yokochi (2012) resurrected the status of tsangpoi as a distinct species mainly based on the differences found in the male genitalia, e.g. the longer valva, broader uncus, shorter and undivided cornuti and more dents at the distal end of valva. To tackle the issue, we examined a series of specimens of both sexes of E. duda from various localities across its distribution including the lectotype, and several individuals of E. tsangpoi including the holotype. The examination of the male genitalia (Figs. 57–65) revealed that no constant difference can be found between both taxa, and the differences summarized by Yokochi (2012) shall be attributed to individual variation and the inaccuracy in the handdrawing (Fig. 56) of the male genitalia of the holotype illustrated in H. Huang (1999), compared with the image of the genitalia slide (Fig. 57). Although Yokochi (2012) stated that limited differences can be found in wing patterns between the type specimens of both taxa, after examining a long series of newly available material, we found that E. tsangpoi generally differs from E. duda by the basally narrower discal patch in space 3 on forewing upperside and the more obliquely placed patches in spaces 5 and 6 of forewing upperside in male (Fig. 45) and the broader discal band on hindwing in the female. Therefore, considering the evidences listed above, it is more reasonable to treat E. tsangpoi as a subspecies of E. duda, viz. E. duda tsangpoi stat. nov.

Distribution.
