Holotype: EEBP 315 a, 70.0 mm SL (Figure 6): Brazil, S„o Paulo, Pirassununga, Mogi-Guaçu River at Emas waterfall, tributary of Grande River, tributary of the Paraná River, ~ 21°55′35″S, 47°22′3″W, ~ 545m asl, 05 Jun 1949.

Remarks. Currently, the species is valid as Hypostomus topavae (Godoy 1969) (see Isbŗcker 1980).

A label in the jar where the individual is preserved indicates that it is the holotype of Plecostomus topavae .
