Hypexilis pallida Horn, 1885

(Figs 13–18)

Hypexilis pallida Horn, 1885: 173; Monné, 2021: 413 (cat.).

Merostenus howdeni Napp & Martins, 1984: 56 . Syn. nov.

Caribbomerus howdeni; Vitali & Rezbanyai-Reser, 2003: 12.

Horn (1885) described Hypexilis pallida from the USA (Texas), and the species remained known only from there until Hovore et al. (1978), who recorded the species from Mexico (Nuevo León). After this, Napp & Martins (1984) described Merostenus howdeni (Fig. 13) (currently, Caribbomerus howdeni) also from Mexico (Nuevo Léon) and compared it with M. exiguous Zayas, 1975 (currently, Caribbomerus exiguus) from Cuba.

Examination of the specimens of H. pallida (Fig. 14) and a paratype male of M. howdeni (Fig. 13) allowed us to see that these two names are synonyms.
