20. Townesia qinghaiensis He 1996

(Fig. 19)

Current combination. Junior synonym of Liotryphon strobilellae (Linnaeus 1758) new synonymy ( Ichneumonidae: Pimplinae).

Material examined. 2♀ s, 2♂s, NHMUK, China, Inner Mongolia, 6.iv.2005, M.L. Sheng, BMNH(E) 2010-66; numerous European specimens of Liotryphon strobilellae in NHMUK .

Comments. Prof. Mao-Ling Sheng kindly donated two females and two males identified as Townesia qinghaiensis, from Inner Mongolia. Li et al. (2019) illustrated the ovipositor tip of Townesia qinghaiensis in detail. These specimens and illustrations agree with the original description (He et al. 1996): the name is a junior synonym of the widespread Liotryphon strobilellae . He (in He et al. 1996) described the species based on specimens reared from Cydia strobilella (Linnaeus) ( Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), a frequent host of L. strobilellae, whereas the European Townesia tenuiventris (Holmgren) is a parasitoid of solitary aculeates (e.g., Jussila & Käpylä 1975); the hosts of other Townesia Ozols species are unknown.
