Local distribution. (Table 1, Fig. 2).

Geographical distribution. Entire GoM; Caribbean Sea: Puerto Morelos Reef National Park and the coast of Quintana Roo; considered as cosmopolitan inhabiting in warm, temperate and boreal regions.

Recognition characters. Female: antennule with three articles; uropodal endopod with six articles, exopod shorter than the first article of endopod. Male: length of the antennule and extended chelipeds of almost two-thirds of the total length of the body; chelipedal fixed finger with two teeth on cutting edge; uropodal endopod with four to six articles.

Remarks. It inhabits between 0 and 200 m perpendicular to the shoreline, on coral reefs, associated with sponges such as A. clathrodes, A. crassa, A. fistularis, C. nucula, Clathria (Clathria) carteri Topsent, C. (Microciona) echinata, D. anchorata, G. neptuni, I. birotulata, Ircinia felix (Duchassaing & Michelotti), I. strobilina and M. arbuscula, algae such as Amphiroa fragilissima (Linnaeus) J.V. Lamouroux, B. tenella, Callithamnion corymbosum (Smith) Lyngbye, C. cervicornis, C. racemosa, C. dasyphylla, Chnoospora minima (Hering) Papenfuss, D. delicatula, D. dichotoma, Dichotomaria obtusata (J. Ellis & Solander) Lamarck, H. spinella, Laurencia obtusa (Hudson) J.V. Lamouroux, Rhipocephalus Kützing, S. natans, Udotea, U. lactuca, barnacles ( A. amphitrite), cnidarians ( P. guadalupensis), seagrasses ( T. testudinum), coral rubble, in wood and in soft bottoms, at depths 0 to 50 m but even to 300 m depth.
