Distribution. Bolivia, Costa Rica, Mexico (Yang et al. 2006), Guatemala *, Panama * and Venezuela * (Fig. 17).
Remarks. Stenopygium punctipennis was first described from Mexico, and later recorded from Bolivia and Costa Rica by Robinson (1970). The species is here newly recorded from Guatemala, Panama and Venezuela at elevations ranging from 256 m (San Cristobal) to 2600 m (San Gerardo de Dota), also suggesting a close association with higher altitudes for species in the genus (see above). The record of this species for Bolivia seems doubtful since all known records, including the specimens studied here, are from Mexico to Venezuela, between latitudes 18° N and 8° N. We analyzed a species of Pelastoneurus from Brazil that has the spot pattern in the wing similar to that of S. punctipennis . However, until the specimens studied by Robinson (1970) are analyzed, we have chosen to question the Bolivian record of this species.
