Types. Colombia. ♂ holotype, ♀ paratype, Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta (11°14’10”N; 74°12’6”W), San Pedro, Magdalena, 04-16.V.1975, J. A. Kochalka leg. deposited in AMNH, examined.
Diagnosis. Females of Striamea gertschi differs from those of Striamea magna in being two to three times smaller in size and in having elongated spermathecae (Fig. 37F–G).
Redescription. Male (Holotype). Color: Chelicerae light brown, carapace in dorsal view with 6–7 brown radial markings, interleaved with radial light brown markings, abdomen in dorsal view with 5–6 pairs of ovoid markings, spinnerets light brown, brown legs, carapace and abdomen in ventral view brown (Fig. 34B). Total length 3.30. Carapace 1.70 long, 1.44 wide. Abdomen 1.60 long. Fovea 0.15. Clypeus 0.03. Ocular tubercle 0.29 long, 0.35 wide. Eyes: 8, anterior row straight, posterior recurved (Fig. 34B). AME 0.03, ALE 0.14, PME 0.09, PLE 0.14. Basal segment of chelicerae with 10 prolateral teeth and 10 smaller mesobasal teeth. Labium 0.15 long, 0.31 wide. Sternum 0.88 wide, 1.05 long. Palp: femur 0.88/ patella 0.50/ tibia 0.90/ tarsus 0.40/ total 2.68; Legs I: femur 1.56/ patella 0.90/ tibia 1.40/ metatarsus 1.40/ tarsus 0.94/ total 6.20; II: 1.32/ 0.70/ 0.90/ 1.10/ 0.74/ total 4.76; III: 1.26/ 0.60/ 0.94/ 1.10/ 0.72/ 4.62; IV: 1.68/ 0.80/ 1.50/ 1.74/ 0.94/ 6.66; Leg formula 4123; Spination: see Raven (1981). Metatarsus I with apical ventral megaspine (Fig. 37D). Metatarsus I with 12–14 grouped microspines retrolaterally (Fig. 37E). Palpal tibia 2.5 times length of cymbium, with basal depression, five strong and robust subdistal spines and curved and elongated distal spine (Fig. 37C). Cymbium with short prolateral lobe and three apical spines. Palpal bulb piriform with short tegulum, flattened and curved embolus, largest than length of tegulum, with conical tip (Fig. 37A–B). PLS: basal, medial and apical, 0.44 0.30 0.50 long.
Female (Paratype). Coloration as in male. Total length 3.74. Carapace 1.90 long, 1.52 wide. Abdomen 1.84 long. Fovea 0.07. Clypeus 0.14. Ocular tubercle 0.25 long, 0.38 wide. Eyes: eight, posterior row recurved (Fig. 34B). AME 0.04, ALE 0.15, PME 0.10, PLE 0.14. Basal segment of chelicerae with 10 prolateral teeth and 10–12 smaller mesobasal teeth. Labium 0.22 long, 0.44 wide. Sternum 0.96 wide, 1.20 long. Palp: femur 0.96/ patella 0.60/ tibia 0.80/ tarsus 0.80/ total 3.16; Legs I: femur 1.62 / patella 0.96/ tibia 1.36/ metatarsus 1.22/ tarsus 0.96/ total 6.12; II: 1.20/ 0.70/ 0.86/ 0.90/ 0.64/ 4.30; III: 0.84/ 0.70/ 0.84/ 1.00/ 0.64/ 4.02; IV: 1.60/ 0.80/ 1.40/ 1.40/ 0.74/ 5.94; Leg formula 1423. Spination: see Raven (1981). Palpal claw with 14 teeth. Spermathecae unilobed, with elevated glandular region at base, sinuous, and elongate ducts (Fig. 37F–G).
