G. lucidum
is the type species of the genus (Richter et al., 2015) and it belongs to the G. lucidum complex (Zhou et al., 2015). It often colonises old deciduous trees in parks and botanical gardens, but it occurs mainly in forests (Sokół, 2000; Bernicchia, 2005). Basidiocarps of G. lucidum grow mostly on oaks, but also on other trees (Kotlaba, 1984; Tortić, 1985; Sokół, 2000; Karadelev et al., 2008; Papp, Szabó, 2013; Ryvarden, Melo, 2014). In Europe, it grows on 24 woody plants genera (Bernicchia, 2005; Ryvarden, Melo, 2014).
