Megalopta subgenus Noctoraptor Engel, Brooks and Yanega
Megalopta (Noctoraptor) Engel, Brooks and Yanega, 1997: 12; Engel, 2000: 41; Michener 2000: 392, 2007: 408. Type species: Megalopta (Noctoraptor) byroni Engel, Brooks and Yanega, 1997: 12, by original designation.
Diagnosis. Females of Noctoraptor can be distinguished by a set of characters found in parasitic bees—lack of scopa, large falciform mandibles and absence of basitibial plate. The males are easily distinguished by their F2, which is two-thirds as long as F3 (about equal in Megalopta s.str.), and the diameter of their antennal socket, which is smaller than the distance between their eye and the antennal socket (much greater in Megalopta s.str.).
