Type locality and habitat. Paulet Island, Antarctic Peninsula, 15 January 1902, in wet moss.

Note. Specimens reported by Womersley (1937: 17) as Hydrogamasus antarcticus were later described as Parasitiphis aurora Lee, 1970: 123 . We have examined a syntype female of H. antarcticus (from the Stockholm Museum), as well as specimens of this species from Macquarie Island (in ANIC) . In both cases the insemination pore is located on the posterodistal face of coxa III, and opens into a short sclerotised basal section of the spermathecal duct within coxa III. This information has been incorporated into the genus concept for Hydrogamasellus . Some of the specimens in Trägårdh's syntype series were misidentified, and actually belong to Hydrogamasellus racovitzai (Trouessart, 1903) . This error was noted on the specimen labels by D. C. Lee when he examined these specimens in 1966.
