Sorex veraepacis species group

The Sorex veraepacis species group can be distinguished from other members of Sorex in NCA by not possessing a postmandibular foramen and canal, U3 is usually shorter than U4, and younger individuals have a pigmented ridge on the lingual side of the unicuspid teeth. Their color is gray to dark gray or black often with white tips on guard hairs. The species group contains four species: composed of S. chiapensis, S. ibarrai, S. veraepacis, and the new species from the Sierra Madre of southwestern Guatemala.
