Habitats. Subtropical rocky reefs and wreck.

Occurrences. Ponta do Ouro and Zavora.

Geographic distribution. Western Indian Ocean. Kenya (Gosliner et al. 2008), South Africa (Gosliner & Johnson 1999) and Mozambique .

Remarks. This species is closely related to H. kaname from the Pacific Ocean, differing externally by the presence of longitudinal white lines and internally by details of the radula and jaw rodlets (Johnson & Gosliner 1999). In one of the specimens collected by us the white lines running from the back of each rhinophore were reduced (Fig. 10 A). This species was found mating with a second morphotype with obvious white lines (Fig. 7 L). Thus, caution is required when using such characteristics as a diagnostic feature.
