Munidopsis crassa Smith, 1885

Munidopsis crassa has been reported from both sides of the Atlantic in depths of 2679 to 4710 m (Smith 1886; Milne-Edwards & Bouvier 1899; Bouvier 1922; Gordon 1955; Wenner 1982; Baba et al. 2008). Thirteen specimens were collected from the Caribbean and Gulf of Mexico in March, July, and November (Fig. 12 F) in depths of 3000 to 4553 m. Six males (CW from 4.6 to 19.4 mm) and six females were measured (CW from 5.1 to 21.2 mm); one specimen was too badly damaged to determine the sex. Males and female sizes were not significantly different (t-test, df = 10, t = -0.0212, p = 0.983). No ovigerous females were available for analysis for M. crassa .
