Napo: [road Quito-Baeza at the telecomunication antenna, N of the Guamani paramo, in the oriental Andes, 0°10.2'S; 78°23.4'W], 4260 m alt., 3 Mar. 1985, [grass forming loose tufts in cushion plants of Distichia muscoides], F.D. Escalona & Gallegos 390 (holotype: ISC; isotypes: K!, MO (MO115961), QCA, US!, VEN).

Previously considered endemic to Ecuador (Luteyn 1999).
