As Bryoplana belgica Houben, Proesmans & Artois sp. nov. is only the second species to be described within the genus, we here provide a new, emended diagnosis for Bryoplana Van Steenkiste, Davison & Artois, 2010, as well as the type species Bryoplana xerophila Van Steenkiste, Davison & Artois, 2010 . Diagnosis amended after Van Steenkiste et al. 2010. Genus of ‘Protoplanellinae’ without dermal or adenal rhabdites. Eyes absent. Pharynx somewhat elongate, in anterior part of body and slanting obliquely forward. Paired testes near the caudal body end and ventrocaudal to the vitellaria. Simple muscular tube as copulatory organ. Bursa copulatrix absent.
Bryoplana xerophila
Species of Bryoplana with the body completely covered by cilia. Testes small, globular. Copulatory organ without any sclerotisation. Without seminal vesicle.
