Subgenus Syntrichomyia Araújo & Bravo

Syntrichomyia Araújo & Bravo, 2003: 459.

Type species: Trichomyia queirozi Bravo, 2002, by original designation.

Comments. Males of Syntrichomyia are easily recognized by the fusion between the gonocoxites and hypandrium forming a plate-like sclerite, the posterolateral surface of which has bristles inserted; other charactersitics include the basal fusion of gonostyli with divergent apices lightly sclerotized and the hypoproct bilobed. Subgenus Syntrichomyia was proposed for grouping three species from Brazil and one from Panamá.
