Leptalpheus aff. forceps Williams, 1965

(Fig. 5 A–D)

Material examined. 1 m, 07.V.2008, Canavieiras, Patipe River, MZUESC 1240.

Comparative material. L. forceps (Fig. 5 E–G), 1 m, 1 f, 21.IV.2004, North Bridge, Fort Pierce, Florida, USA, MNHN-Na-15682.

Distribution. Western Atlantic—Brazil ( Bahia) (present study).

Ecological notes. The single specimen was collected from a burrow of unknown host in mud, at a salinity of 3 psu.

Previous records. None.

Remarks. The specimen collected (CL= 2.7 mm) was compared with L. forceps from Florida. The Bahian specimen differed from the Florida specimens in the dentition of the major chela (cf. Figs. 5 D, G) and in the proportions of the articles of the antennular peduncle (cf. Figs. 5 A, E). More material of this possibly undescribed species is needed to confirm its identity.
