Pambolus oblongispina Papp, 2000

(Figs 1A–E, 2A–D)

P. oblongispina Coronado-Blanco and Ruiz-Cancino, 2013

Variation. Females. Body length 3.0– 4.3 mm (Fig. 1A). Head black to chestnut brown. Scape and pedicel chestnut brown, honey yellow or light brown. Basal flagellomeres (1st–2nd to 4th–7th) honey yellow to light brown; subapical– apical white band composed of 7–12 flagellomeres (Fig. 1B), respectively, at least five flagellomeres in the specimen with broken antennae. Mesoscutum black to chestnut brown. Coxae and trochantelli white to honey yellow; trochanters with basal brown, white or honey yellow band; femora white or honey yellow, light brown dorsally; tibiae white, light brown or brownish yellow; tarsi brownish yellow to light brown, 5th tarsomere and tarsal claw darker in some specimens. First metasomal tergite black, dark brown or basal half black and remaining area honey brown. Metasoma honey brown, rusty brown or dark brown. Striations on vertex ranging from curved transversal to concentric striae (Fig. 1D).

Males. Body length smaller than females, 1.9–3.2 mm (Fig. 2A). Antenna longer than body, with 26-35 flagellomeres, all dark brown. Frons around ocellar field with concentric (Fig. 2.B) or concave striae. Scape pale yellow, pedicel brown. Head and mesosoma chestnut brown to black. Propodeum black. Metasoma chestnut brown or black, first metasomal tergite striate, laterally from scutum striate; second metasomal tergite with few basal striations, remaining area smooth, remaining tergites completely smooth (Fig. 2D). Coxae, trochanters and trochantelli honey yellow to white; femorae honey yellow or brown dorsally, white ventrally or all honey yellow; tibiae and tarsi honey yellow to brown.

Comments. We observed morphological variation in some characters between the holotype of P. oblongispina from Honduras and the ones assigned to this species from Oaxaca and Jalisco, Mexico. This includes differences in body and antenna colour, as well as on sculpture of frons around the ocellar area. However, the registered morphological differences were not consistent among the specimens involved, and thus we prefer to maintain the conspecificity of the populations involved pending further morphological and molecular studies as well as additional material.
