Elanela scutomaculata sp. nov.

Material examined. HOLOTYPE, ♀, BRAZIL, Amazonas, Coari, PETROBRAS, estrada RUC 42, P1 borda mata, Rio Urucu, 4º52'32.3"S 65º16'44.8"W, 5.iii.2010, J.A.M. Fernandes & Equipe coll., luz mista Hg e luz negra (MPEG) .

Etymology. scutomaculata, adjective feminine; from L. scutum, meaning shield, and L. macula, meaning spot, in reference to the ivory callus on disk of scutellum.

Diagnosis. Legs yellow; few, scattered brown spots on each leg; disc of scutellum calloused, ivory (Fig. 8); urosternite VII black medially. Female genitalia: gonocoxites 8 flat; gonocoxites 8 as long as wide, covering most of gonocoxites 9 and laterotegites 9; gonocoxites 9 flat, level with gonocoxites 8; laterotergites 9 rounded apically.

Description. Legs yellow; few, scattered brown spots on each leg; disc of scutellum calloused, ivory. Abdominal urosternites yellow; each urosternite with brown punctate stripes laterally; urosternite VII black medially. Each connexival sclerite mostly black, with medio-lateral, semi-circular, yellow spot. Proportion of antennal segments: I <II = III <IV = V.

Female genitalia. Genital plates setose. Gonocoxites 8 flat; as long as wide, ample covering most of gonocoxites 9 and laterotegites 9; sutural margins parallel, lateral margins concave, and posterior margins straight (Fig. 21). Posterior margin of each laterotergite 8 with minute, rounded projection; laterotergites 8 each bearing a spiracle. Gonocoxites 9 flat, level with gonocoxites 8. Laterotergites 9 flat, slightly surpassing tergite VIII; each laterotergite 9 obtuse apically.

Total length, 5.60; length of head, 0.77; head length ahead of eyes, 0.40; interocular distance, 0.97; length of antennal segment: I, 0.27; II, 0.93; III, 0.73; IV, 1.50; V, 1.57; width of head, 0.77; width of pronotum, 3.67; length of pronotum, 1.27; width of scutellum, 2.33; length of scutellum, 2.37; width of abdomen at third segment, 3.93.

Male unknown.

Distribution. Brazil (Amazonas) (Fig. 22).
