Isoetes lacustris Linnaeus, Species Plantarum 2: 1100. 1753.

"Habitat in Europae frigidae fundo lacuum." RCN: 7959.

Lectotype (Fuchs in Beih. Nova Hedwigia 3: 30, f. 10. 1962): Herb. Linn. No. 1256.1 (LINN) .

Generitype of Isoëtes Linnaeus.

Current name: Isoetes lacustris L. ( Isoetaceae).

Note: Jonsell & Jarvis (in Jarvis & al., Regnum Veg. 127: 57. 1993; Nordic J. Bot. 14: 148. 1994), unaware of Fuchs’ earlier type choice (with its detailed discussion and illustration of many of the original elements), independently reached the same conclusion. Although Fuchs’ assumption that the type collection (which has no direct indication of provenance) came from Lake Möcklen ( Småland, Sweden, see p. 90) may not be correct, his type choice has priority.
