Inula bifrons Linnaeus, Species Plantarum, ed. 2, 2: 1236. 1763.

"Habitat in Italia, Galloprovincia, Pyrenaeis." RCN: 6393.

Lectotype (Anderberg in Jarvis & Turland in Taxon 47: 363. 1998): Herb. Linn. No. 993.11 (LINN) .

Current name: Inula bifrons L. ( Asteraceae).

Note: The Hermann (1698) reference that appeared in synonymy here had previously been cited in the synonymy of Conyza bifrons L. (1753), leading many authors to assume that Linnaeus was restricting C. bifrons to a European taxon and simultaneously transferring it to Inula . However, this is not the case for, in 1763, he continued to recognise C. bifrons (Sp. Pl., ed. 2, 2: 1207), instead restricting it to a North American taxon. The correct authority is therefore I. bifrons L., rather than I. bifrons (L.) L.
