Type locality— Western coast of Norway, 60–100 m.
Material examined. Maurit-0811: MU131, 1♂. Maurit-0911: MU184, 1 juvenile. MUBV08, 1♀. BISSAU-0810: BS152, 1♀ juvenile.
Remarks. Our material agrees with the description and figures given by Sars (1891). The juveniles show a shorter neck than the adults, as it is described by Stock (1952).
Habitat. This species is frequent in the shelf and continental slope from brown algae (Lehmann et al. 2014), calcareous nodules (Stock 1990), foraminifera, corals and sandy bottoms (Stock 1987) between 3 and 1900 m. Our specimens have been collected between 102 and 303 m.
Geographical distribution. Atlantic species mainly distributed in the northeast area, where had been collected from Norway (Sars 1888; Rigvold et al. 2015), Ireland (Bamber & Thurston 1995), the English Channel (Stock 1987), the Iberian Peninsula (Soler-Membrives & Munilla 2015), Gibraltar (Stock 1987), south of Morocco (Bamber & Thurston 1993), the Canary Islands (Munilla & Soler-Membrives 2014) and Cape Verde Islands (Stock 1990). Also reported in the western Mediterranean Sea (Munilla 1993; Lehmann et al. 2014; Soler-Membrives & Munilla 2015) and from the South of Brazil (Stock 1992) in the West Atlantic. Our specimens have been collected in the South of Mauritania and Guinea-Bissau.
